The Anointing

the revelation of christ

"Book Taster " Chapter 2: Why am I writing a book about the revelation of Christ?

Well, In the book of Matthew 16, a conversation is recorded between Jesus and the twelve Apostles in which we see the revealing of CHRIST. It all began with Jesus asking the question,

“Who do men say that I, the son of man am?”

14  And they said, Some say that thou art John the Baptist: some, Elias; and others, Jeremias, or one of the prophets.
15  He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am?
16  And Simon answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.
17  And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.
18  And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.

  1. And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.

Simon sat quietly as the other disciples gave their answers to Jesus in verse 14. Simon (Peter) knew something, something no man had ever told him, he just knew it but he also knew it wasn’t yet time for him to say what he knew.

Jesus gave absolutely no response to what the people outside were saying about him, however, immediately it seems that wanted to know what those closest to him had to say in response to these incorrect statements. In other words, what strangers have to say was not important to the Christ, but what the disciples had to say was paramount. I believe at this point Jesus sensed that Simon’s silence wasn’t brought about by ignorance or shyness, rather his tougue was stilled by the awesome magnitude of the revelation that had been given to him directly from God.

Simon’s answer was to produce a blessing unparalleled in the New Testament. It was to invoke a prophetic statement from our Lord Jesus that would echo through all time, serving as a mandate of power to every single member of the body of Christ.

Jesus spoke a blessing which, instantly released an incredible mantle of authority both on Simon (Peter) and all of the generations, in time to come, to whom this word would be revealed and that includes both you and me today! Jesus instantly declared a timeless prophetic word not only to Simon Peter but to the entire Church to come, HALLELUJAH!. He said in no uncertain terms, that it is upon this revelation, or the revealing of himself in this manner, that he will build his Church. God the Father revealing the son of God in the hearts of each and every believer would produce unparalleled growth of the Kingdom of God in the Earth. Notice: He called it HIS CHURCH.  And he said, that HIS CHURCH, armed with this rock solid revelation, would stand up against the very gates of hell.

Through this scripture we know for certain exactly what the church of Jesus Christ is supposed to be comprised of today. It is to be the church born of revelation truth from the Father God. It is supposed to be a church walking in the absolute authority of God, having the Keys to the Kingdom of Heaven, being able to declare lawful and unlawful (Binding and Loosing with his authority) here in the Earth, With he Gates of hell not being able to prevail in any way against it.

The Word has been spoken and cannot be reversed, therefore we, as the church, must, by revelation, appropriate and receive it by faith. It is the Lord’s will for us to walk in the victory which he promised through this Word. Now, If you are in agreement with what you have just read, it is imperative that we now consider most carefully, the following question:

What exactly did Simon (Peter) say?
Lets examine his words carefully Simon said “Thou art the CHRIST, the son of the Living God”. Or did he?

Look carefully again, Simon was a Jew, and he didn’t speak Greek, he spoke Jewish. CHRIST is a Greek word, so although the text was translated this way, Simon didn’t actually say You are the “CHRIST”. Simon used the original Hebrew word for Christ, which is, “Messiah”, this was later translated into the word CHRIST by Greeks who interpreted the account into their own language (See ACTS 11:26)

If we can find out what Simon really said, and if we can say it with the same belief and passion that he did, then we can receive the same resulting blessing from Jesus that Simon received. The presence of God on Simon was so mighty at times the bible records that his very shadow healed sick people that he passed on the roadside.

ACTS 5:14  And believers were the more added to the Lord, multitudes both of men and women.)
15  In somuch that they brought forth the sick into the streets, and laid them on beds and couches, that at the least the shadow of Peter passing by might overshadow some of them.
16  There came also a multitude out of the cities round about unto Jerusalem, bringing sick folks, and them which were vexed with unclean spirits: and they were healed every one.

WOW, Did you get that? folks were so excited about the coming of the Apostle Peter that they actually laid sick folk on the side of the road, in the hope that just in passing, his shadow should touch them and heal them. Stop and think about that for a moment. Close the pages of this book, close your eyes and picture the man called Peter. This was the same Peter who cut off some-one's ear on the night of the crucifixion, the same Peter who tried and failed to master the water walk and the same Peter that Jesus once rebuked for speaking with a Satanic toungue. He was a rough and tough hard case who even cussed at times YET it gives me the shakes just to think about the amount of Holy Ghost Power he must have walked in, Hallilujah!

So what did Simon really say?  Simon said, YOU ARE THE MESSIAH, the Son of the living God. Notice, he didn’t say, I think you are, he said YOU ARE. Simon was fully convinced and persuaded that what he was saying was fact, and no opinion of man was ever going to change that, This  attitude connected with Jesus in such a way that he instantly, perceiving Simon differently, changed his name from Simon (meaning sand), to Peter, meaning fragment of a huge rock.
I believe Jesus was saying. This revelation is rock like, it’s as solid as a rock and since you are the one who said it, you are rocky type of guy.

From now on, we will refer to Simon the way Jesus did. We can call him Peter because we know why Jesus called him Peter:

Why was it, that although there were at least twelve men in that room, only Peter got what I call the “rocky” revelation? There must have been something about Peter’s character, which yielded the unveiling of his mind. Christ was, to everybody else in the room, a mystery.

I was born again, for at least a year before I began to receive the revelation of Christ. I will never forget the way it happened. I was already a Christian attending church, reading my bible etc. but I had not yet found the true purpose for my life. I was enjoying my faith but for myself and nobody else.

I believe there are many Christians today who are just like I was, self centered. The revelation of Christ is as much a mystery to them as it was to the other eleven Disciples in Peter’s day. The revealing of Christ did for me, exactly what it did for Peter. It changed my identity and gave me a purpose for living.

I began to understand that being born again was more than just falling out, having wonderful visions and speaking in tongues. Although I did plenty of all three in my first year of being saved. I began to realise that God has a purpose for every Christian to be become the “rocky” foundation stones upon which Jesus can build His Church.

As I sat in that meeting in 1995, I was transported back in time, approximately two thousand years, The preacher became my Peter and I knew exactly how the eleven other disciples must have felt as the mystery of Christ unraveled before my very eyes.
